Living Independently with a Lift Chair

Posted By: | Posted On: | Article ID:

If it is no longer possible or even if it is no longer easy to stand independently, then being able to get up off the couch can become a very real concern. In life there are many obstacles that can not be done alone, but there is not a reason that standing up should be one of these obstacles. Instead through the use of a mobility lifting aid, like a lift chair, it is possible, nay, in almost all cases highly achievable to stand independently and safely, with only a push of a single button.
Finding the right type of lift chair is something that very well might seem overwhelming if you consider all of the different models available, but this feeling is something that should run parallel to purchasing a lift chair. Instead it should be a simple task that uses the person who will be using the chairs physical proportions, their personal taste, and the benefit that they wish to receive from the chair.
There are three basic lift chair categories that can be used to divide the chairs into groups. These categories describe how far back the chair reclines and also how the footrest and backrest operate.
For most people a 3 Position Lift Chair will be the optimal choice. These chairs fully recline and offer a great platform for reading, watching television programs, or sleeping.
If you care for a little bit of extra control, then an Infinite Position Lift Chair will be a better choice. These chairs recline to the same degree that a 3 position chair does, but they allow the footrest to operate independently of the backrest. These chairs allow for much more configurations and also have medical benefits.
The other type of chair is the 2 position chair, which does not recline as far as an infinite position chair or a 3 position chair. Instead they recline approximately 45 degrees, which allows for the seated individual to be comfortable as they watch television programs or read. Often a 2 position chair can be purchased for a lower price than the others, but this is not always the case.
It is common, and in fact might stand to logic, that a 2 position chair can only achieve two recline positions, but this is not the case. All of these chairs can be reclined and stopped at any point up until they reach the chairs limit.
With this understanding of the three basic lift chair recliner categories, it is a much simpler task in deciding on the correct chair. You will also need to know the persons height and weight when considering a chair.
It is also a good idea to have an idea of how wide of a chair you need. To figure this out, it is possible to simply take an existing chair or recliner that you have in your home and measure the width of the seat. Use this number to compare the chairs and if the chair you have at home is not wide enough, then add a few inches to the number. The same is true if it is too wide, but you should be careful doing so.
