Home Remedies for Acne

Many people are now looking towards natural home remedies for acne, instead of off-the-shelf products to get rid of their acne problems. This is understandable since it is both convenient and economical to do so at home. Before we go straight into any home remedy for acne, let's take a look at some of the simple things to do to complement our acne home remedies.

The best therapy is to take care of the skin before the acne outbreaks even occur. Don't skip breakfast and don't waste too many nights partying. Yes, it's always fun to party, but when you have severe acne, the next morning's spectacle offered by the appearance of some new pimples is often too high a price to pay.

Some home remedies work pretty well. For example a mask made of oatmeal mixed with water works wonders on problem skin. Try this home remedy twice a week. Keep the mask over the affected portion of your skin for 20 minutes and you'll soon notice your skin becomes cleaner and less oily.

Oatmeal mask - Mix oatmeal with water and apply on the affected area for at least 20 minutes twice a week. This mask works wonder for oily skin.

Orange peel paste - Ground the orange peel and mix it with water. Apply it for at least 30 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water.

Cucumber paste - Ground cucumber and create a paste from it. Apply it on your face and leave it on for at least an hour. This would help you in preventing acne breakout.

It is a good idea to expose your skin to steam for few minutes everyday to reduce the formation of pimples and other marks of Acne. It is strongly advised to add apple cider vinegar to the boiling water used for steam.

The toothpaste available at home is capable of diminishing the Acne spots. You may apply paste over these spots at night and wash your face early in the morning.

Acne and pimples, and resultant scars as well, can be cleared by the application of a mixture of equal quantities of the juice of a lemon and rose water. This should be kept on for about thirty minutes and then washed off with warm water. The face, when wiped twice or thrice every day with cotton wool dipped in rose water is cured of all blemishes like acne and pimple. This is an outstanding astringent.

The extract of mint leaves or the juice of aloe Vera are also known to reduce acne and other skin infections like eczema and scabies.

One important home remedy is cleanliness and the use of gentle cleansers. Harsh soaps tend to dry out the skin and can actually cause the over production of sebum or oil worsening the condition. What is better is to use a mild cleanser like Cetaphil or its generic equivalents. This will clean your skin and remove excess oil without overdrying your skin. Mild cleansers are also usually hypoallergenic so as to minimize any disturbance to acne inflamed skin. It is also important to make sure all makeup and similar products are removed before bedtime.

Another effective remedy is to make a paste from sandalwood and black gram. Use either milk or rose water as the base for the paste. Apply over the whole face, or just in the affected area, and leave it overnight. Wash your face clean with cool water in the morning. Sandalwood does a great job of reducing skin inflammation and irritation because it has a cooling effect.
