Hair Products for Curls

Posted By: | Posted On: | Article ID:

Most people with curly hair can't go product free. Of course, you need to shampoo and condition, but there is also a need for styling products. The products that work for you might not work for the next person even if you both have curly hair because everyone's curly hair is different. Some people have large curls, others have tight spirals. Some people have dry hair, others have very dry hair. The best way to know which products will work for you is to experiment. If you try a product and your hair turns out bad, try something else.

First, you need a good shampoo. Shampoo can really add to the dryness of your hair, so you must make sure you get the right one. Also, because it can be so drying, you should really cut back on your shampoos. Don't shampoo every time you wash. Shampoo every other time or once or twice a week. Go longer if you can. On the days you don't shampoo, just put a little bit of conditioner on your scalp and scrub with your fingers to loosen the dirt. Get a shampoo designed for curly hair or a moisturizing shampoo.

Next, you will need to condition your hair. Conditioners like vo5 and suave are too thin and not strong enough for curly hair. Try to go for thicker conditioners like dove or garnier fructis. Your hair needs something that it can soak up. Leave it on for at least a minute or longer for extra moisturizing. Always condition your hair every time you wash it. Concentrate more conditioner on the ends to get them extra moisturized because the ends are your oldest hair and usually the driest.

Conditioning is very important for curly, dry hair. Make sure you don't skip it. It's likely that the daily conditioning you do won't be enough, so you should supplement it with a deep condition once a month or every couple of weeks. Find something that is specially designed as a deep conditioning treatment that you leave on longer. You could also use a hot oil treatment every once and a while as well.

Once you are clean and conditioned, you will be styling. Styling products are important to get the right curls. If you skip the styling products, your hair may frizz up and just get unruly. There are several different types of styling products you can use. Whichever you choose I recommend always starting with a leave-in conditioner first. This ensures that you won't lose moisture throughout the day.

Next, you will need to use a styling product that holds your curls and reduces frizz. A serum is a possibility to help reduce frizz, but on top of that I recommend either a gel or mousse. Both of these provide much needed hold for frizzy hair.

Once you've applied all your products, you are ready to let your hair dry and enjoy your amazing curls. For product recommendations, visit the link below.
